SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.06 g, 7 h), circa 478-475. Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding goad in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. ΣYR-ΑΚ-ΟΣΙ-ΟΝ Diademed head of Arethusa to right, her hair drawn up at the back and wearing pearl necklace; around, four dolphins swimming right. Boehringer 184 (V81/R126). Well struck and attractive. Harshly cleaned and with light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
